When person A needs person B to complete an activity, we use this structure;

Want + somebody + to + infinitive verb

  • The verb “want” can be used in any tense, although it’s rarely used in continuous forms.
  • The “somebody” can be an object pronoun, the name of a person or a noun

A common mistake in this structure is inserting the word “that”.

❌ I want that you clean your room.

✅ I want you to clean your room.

This is a very useful structure used in everyday English.
