Everyday Practice

  • Below are some examples of activities you can do to constantly practise using the schwa in English.

Ted Talks and YouTube

A great activity to practise the schwa is to listen to videos and audios in English. Our favourite resources are Ted Talks and YouTube. Simply listen to and watch the videos and listen out for the way that native speakers use the schwa when speaking. By being more aware of this sound, you’ll understand it’s importance in speaking.

Read our Blogs

In order to practise saying the schwa, you need some native texts to practise reading out loud. Why not use our blog, with plenty of British culture resources. We suggest reading the blog posts out loud and really focus on the places when the schwa is needed.

Review Word Stress

One of the key pronunciation topics that will help you use the schwa correctly is word stress. Why not take a look at our word stress course to learn more about the rules and patterns?
