Match

  • Download and print out the flashcards.
  • Separate the cards into white cards and blue cards.
  • Shuffle all the white cards together.
  • Shuffle all the blue cards together.
  • Place all the cards on a flat surface facing down. Put all the white cards on one side and all the blue cards on another side.
  • Turn over a blue card, this will be a letter of the alphabet. For example, A. Say this letter out loud correctly.
  • Now turn over a white card, this will be a word. For example, monkey. Say this word out loud correctly. The word on the white card should start with the letter on the blue card. In this case, this is incorrect. Monkey starts with M, not A. So if this is incorrect, turn over the white card and find another one.
  • For example, apple. Once you have a match, eliminate these cards from the game.
  • Repeat this until all of the cards have been matched together.

Spell The Word

  • For this game, you only need the white cards, so collect all the white cards together and shuffle them.
  • Place them in a pile.
  • Take the card from the top of the pile and read this word out loud. For example, apple. Now spell this word out loud correctly: A-P-P-L-E.
  • Listen to the audios below to hear the correct spelling.
  • If your spelling is correct, place the card in a “correct” pile.
  • If your spelling is incorrect, place the card in an “incorrect” pile.
  • After you have completed all the cards, review the spelling for all the words in the incorrect pile.

Create a Word

  • For this game, you only need the blue cards, so collect all the blue cards together and shuffle them.
  • Think of a word in English. This could be an object or personal information (such as your name).
  • Find the letters on the cards and place these out on a flat surface to spell the word. For example, I might spell my name Hannah.
  • Now spell this word out loud with the correct pronunciation of the letters of the alphabet.
  • Repeat this as many times as you would like with a new word every time.
